Important Information about Pets

If you are considering bringing a pet with you to Mossel Bay Retirement and Lifestyle Village, there are a few important rules to keep in mind. We allow only certain dogs. No cats are allowed.

First and foremost, you must receive written permission from the Trustees in order to keep a dog in Mossel Bay Retirement and Lifestyle Village. This permission is contingent upon several factors, including compliance with Municipal bylaws, the Estate ROD and MLV Conduct Rules.

In order to apply for permission, owners must submit information about their dog, including a color photo.

For those who are renting a house in the village, tenants may apply for a dog permit if the property owner has given written permission for the dog to live there. However, owners must ensure that their tenants follow all village dog rules.

Once permission is granted, all dogs must be registered in the pet register. 

Dogs must be sterile and have proof of their sterilization, as unsterilized dogs are prohibited. The application must also include proof that all dogs have been vaccinated for rabies and dewormed as required by the local veterinarian.

The main building, service center, and apartment buildings are pet-free, and no pets are allowed on the premises except guide dogs. Dogs must be leashed and controlled everywhere in the village except on owners' property, and owners must apply for permission to build a fence around their property. The maximum rear-site fenced area is 12m².

If pet owners violate any of these rules, they must remove their pets immediately. Finally, please note that cats are never allowed, and dogs cannot exceed 5kg or 30cm in height.

Dogs must wear tags with their owners' phone numbers and addresses, and each household is allowed one of the following breeds:

• Yorkshire Terriers
• Sausage Dogs,
• Pugs,
• Pekinese,
• Miniature Doberman Pinchers,
• Maltese Dogs,
• Chihuahuas, or Miniature Schnauzers.
